Warren Schlichting Out as Sling TV Group President, Michael Schwimmer Promoted

In the battle for subscribers, one of the casualties can be upper management.

In the last two quarters, Dish reported a net loss of 375,000 Sling TV customers. The company lost revenue and Warren Schlichting, EVP-group president of Dish Network’s Sling TV, today lost his high-profile job.

He will be replaced by Michael Schwimmer, a longtime Dish vet, who will also handle media sales. Previously, Schwimmer was EVP, international business development.

Schlichting had been in his post since 2017, handling acquisition and renewal deals for Dish TV and Sling TV content, in addition to ad sales.

Dish also announced other senior-level appointments: Dave Mayo becomes EVP, network development, Jeff Blum has been promoted to EVP, external and legislative affairs, and John Swieringa has been named Group President, retail wireless. He keeps his duties as Dish’s Chief Operating Officer.

Dish’s satellite TV business has been severely impacted by cord-cutting trends. The launch of the 5-year-old Sling TV was a move to stem subscriber losses. In Q4 2019, Sling TV had a net loss of 94,000. In the next quarter it lost 281,000, reports Variety. As of March 31, Sling had 2.31 million customers, down 4.7 percent.
