Xumo to Integrate Into Sony, Panasonic Smart TVs

Xumo plans to build custom-video streaming apps integrated into Sony and Panasonic smart TVs.

The new integration deal will deliver over-the-air and OTT channels to an international audience. Users press the channel up and down or guide button on the TV remote control to watch Xumo channels.

Xumo is already on TV sets made by LG via the company’s LG Channels.

Colin Petrie-Norris, Xumo CEO, stated: “Xumo is eager to join forces and work toward providing audiences their favorite streaming or local, over-the-air channels through one intuitive TV experience.”

Nick Colsey, VP, business development, Sony Electronics, added the deal brought the streaming experience “direct to consumers in a truly seamless manner by allowing viewers to access a variety of free channels on our Bravia TVs.”

The expansion follows news that Comcast Corp may buy Xumo. The communications giant wants to enlarge its ad-supported TV efforts before NBCU, owned by Comcast, launches its AVOD platform Peacock.

Xumo claims availability in 45 million U.S. households through smart TVs, mobile, web and streaming video set-top boxes, delivering 190-plus channels to U.S. households across 12 programming genres. Channels include ABC News Live, FilmRise, PeopleTV, NBC News, Food52, Now This and History.
