Amazon revealed some exciting news about its lineup of hardware and services earlier today. One of the biggest reveals for us streaming video fans is none other the arrival of more live TV options on Echo Show devices. Amazon announced that Sling TV, the Live TV Streaming Service, will be available for use on Echo Show devices later this year.
Sling joins other streaming services available on the platform, like Hulu and Hulu Live TV, Tubi, and Netflix, which became available last year.
For those getting started with cable cutting, or for those who miss their old television packages, the addition of Sling TV helps bridge the gap. It makes even more sense with the addition of their largest Echo Show ever, Echo Show 15. Almost a small television in its own right, the Echo Show 15 boasts a 15.6 inch display that shows in full 1080p resolution. The Echo Show 15 uses the Amazon AZ2 Neural Edge processor as its base. This makes for a system that can offer up a wide range of options for customizing and personalizing the presentation.
The Echo Show 15 was originally designed as a way to have what amounts to a high-powered bulletin board on hand. Such would allow busy homeowners to keep better organized with a nice centrally-located display. With the Sling TV addition, it will be that much more possible to take your favorite shows anywhere you want to take them. With the new Sling TV capability on hand, all users need do is say “Alexa, open Sling TV,” and channels are right on hand.
Future developments include a direct connection to TikTok for all the short video you can stand. Users will be able to search by genre or classification simply by saying “Alexa, play dance videos on TikTok” or the like. Also included is an upcoming tool called “Hey, Disney.” “Hey, Disney” looks to put a familiar Disney face on Alexa, allowing Disney characters to step in. The idea of having Mickey Mouse tell me the weather for the day is oddly compelling.
