Despite High Demand, ‘The Mandalorian’ Still Trailed ‘Stranger Things’ and ‘Titans,’ Data Shows

One of Disney+’s most highly anticipated shows was “The Mandalorian,” the first ever live-action Star Wars series. The show is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. The series follows a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.

After the launch of Disney+ last week, “The Mandalorian” took the No. 3 spot on a ranking of the most in-demand digital originals among U.S. viewers, Variety reports. According to data from Parrot Analytics, the series garnered 40 million “demand expressions,” which are not actual views, but an amalgamation of metrics from “social media and video streaming platforms, piracy networks, photo-sharing services, blogs etc.”

Parrot Analytics also reported that “The Mandalorian” had stronger U.S. demand than some of 2019’s biggest streaming originals — Netflix’s “The Umbrella Academy,” “When They See Us” and “The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance,” as well as Amazon Prime Video’s “Good Omens” — in its first four days.

Despite the sensational debut, however, “The Mandalorian” still trailed mega-hit “Stranger Things,” logging only 40 percent of the demand over the same period of time, as well as DC Universe’s “Titans.”

You can stream “The Mandalorian” and the entire Disney+ film and TV show library, including hundreds of movies and shows with a 7-Day Free Trial. After the first two episodes, Disney+ will now be releasing most episodes every Friday, with the exception of the penultimate one, which will come on Wednesday, December 18.
