M. Night Shyamalan’s Thriller ‘Servant’ Launches on Apple TV+

Filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan, best known for “The Sixth Sense,” “Glass” and “Split,” is now directing “Servant,” a thriller for Apple TV+.

Starring Lauren Ambrose and Toby Kebbell, the nightmare story concerns a couple’s delusions about their dead infant son. The wife believes her son is still alive — in a reborn doll — and both her husband and nanny play along. All inhabit a house they can’t quite escape.

The first three episodes are available today. Shyamalan told The Hollywood Reporter he envisions 60 episodes for the full “Servant” saga.

The remaining 10-episodes of the first season will air weekly, released every Friday. Each is 30-minutes long; “Servant” has already been renewed for a second season.

The show reflects Shyamalan’s singular style: Fear and dread permeate every episode. Shyamalan told THR: “It’s not a haunted house show, but there is that feeling. It’s almost an urban nightmare … What should scare you is what’s happening inside of these characters.”

The cast of “Servant” also includes Rupert Grint, of “Harry Potter” fame, and Nell Tiger Free from “Game of Thrones.”

Apple TV+ launched on Nov. 1 with four original scripted shows: “Dickinson,” “For All Mankind,” “The Morning Show” and “See.”

The streamer is a $5-per-month subscription service.
