What’s Coming to Streaming, Including ‘Leverage: Redemption’ and ‘Gossip Girl’

Leverage: Redemption returns for eight more first season episodes, starting Oct. 8 on IMDb TV. The rich and powerful take what they want, and the Leverage team — The Grifter, The Thief, The Hitter, and The Hacker — is back to take them down. The cast includes Gina Bellman, Beth Riesgraf, Christian Kane, Aleyse Shannon, and Noah Wyle.

Here are additional deals and projects:

  • Gossip Girl has landed a second-season order from HBO Max. Season 1 of the teen drama debuted on July 8. The next six episodes will stream in November. The show explores how the high school landscape has changed since the original CW Gossip Girl series ended in 2012. The original narrator, Kristen Bell, returns as the voice of the main character.

Max

Max is a subscription video streaming service that gives access to the full HBO library, along with exclusive Max Originals. There are hubs for content from TLC, HGTV, Food Network, Discovery, TCM, Cartoon Network, Travel Channel, ID, and more. Watch hit series like “The Last of Us,” “House of the Dragon,” “Succession,” “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” and more. Thanks to the B/R Sports add-on, users can watch NBA, MLB, NHL, March Madness, and NASCAR events.

Max has three tiers, an ad-supported plan for $9.99 an ad-free plan for $15.99, and the ultimate tier that includes 4K for $19.99.

All Max subscribers will get the full libraries of shows like “Friends”, “The Big Bang Theory”, “South Park”, “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air”, “The West Wing”, and more.

You can choose to add Max as a subscription through Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, or other Live TV providers.

  • The Muppets’ first Halloween special Muppets Haunted Mansion premieres October 8 on Disney+. The special offers celebrity cameos, new music, and spooky fun for families to enjoy. Muppets Haunted Mansion takes place on Halloween night, when Gonzo spends one daring night in the creepy Haunted Mansion. Also, all eight episodes of the supernatural anthology series Just Beyond, inspired by author R.L. Stine, will begin streaming on October 13.

  • Zoey’s Extraordinary Christmas has become The Roku Channel’s first original movie. The NBC musical drama Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist was canceled in June after two seasons. However, upset fans took to social media to push for its return. The Roku Channel is adding all 25 episodes of the series later this fall. The show premiered on NBC in 2020 and earned five Emmy nominations.

Roku Channel

The Roku Channel is a free live TV streaming service that provides 350+ live linear streaming channels and more than 80,000 free movies and TV shows. The library contains entertainment from several different decades, including some major hits.

The service also made a splash with the acquisition of the Quibi library, now presented as Roku Originals. More original content is set to follow.

Users can add premium subscriptions to services like Paramount+, Showtime, STARZ, discovery+, and AMC+ that can be accessed within the Roku Channel ecosystem.

  • TikTok Star Addison Rae signed a multi-picture film deal with Netflix after her turn in He’s All That for the streamer. Rae will also executive produce the projects. He’s All That is a gender-swapping remake of the 1999 teen rom-com with Rae turning a classmate into prom king.

  • Star Trek: Picard has landed a third season renewal on Paramount+ ahead of its season 2 launch, now set for February 2022. Jean-Luc Picard’s enemy Q is back and changes history — the Federation is now a totalitarian state. It’s a theme the original series visited when Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock fought Nazis. Picard and friends must travel back in time to save the future. Trek sibling series Star Trek: Discovery returns for its fourth season on Nov. 18 on the streamer. Producers also announced an Oct. 28 launch date for the new Nickelodeon-Paramount+ co-production Star Trek: Prodigy.

Paramount Plus

Paramount+ is a subscription video streaming service that includes on-demand access to 40,000+ TV show episodes from BET, CBS, Comedy Central, MTV, Nickelodeon, Nick Jr. and more. The lineup includes “1883,” “Tulsa King,” “Star Trek: Discovery,” Nickelodeon’s “SpongeBob SquarePants,” and “PAW Patrol.” Subscribers can watch the NFL, college football, The Masters, college basketball, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa, Serie A, and NWSL. The service also offers the option to watch your live CBS affiliate. The upgraded ad-free package includes premium movies and shows from Showtime.

Subscribers can choose between the Essential Plan (which includes ads) for $5.99/month, or go commercial-free and add more movies with Paramount+ with SHOWTIME for $11.99/month.

Subscribers to the more expensive plan will also get access to your local CBS affiliate to stream your local news, prime-time lineup, and late-night. You will also be able to download offline and watch select shows in 4K.

With the lower-cost “Essential” plan, you will still be able to watch live NFL games, Champions League, and national news – but you will no longer get your local CBS affiliate.

With their new app, enjoy advanced recommendations, curated homepages, and new content categories while still being able to stream major live sports like NFL, College Football, College Basketball. Sports fans will also appreciate the service’s inclusion of NFL on CBS, PGA Tour, along with every match of UEFA Champions League and Serie A.

  • Haystack News launched a special streaming channel Sept. 8 to commemorate the 20-year commemoration of the September 11 terror attacks. It runs through Sept. 12. The streamer has additional special news programs this month, including coverage of the recall vote of California Gov. Gavin Newsom (September 13-15) and a forecast for the 2022 midterms. There is also an Emmy Awards Spotlight (September 19-21) offering behind-the-scenes stories coverage of TV’s big night.

  • Bruce Willis and Michael Rooker will team for the action/sci-fi film Corrective Measures on Tubi. Sean Patrick O’Reilly will direct the movie, based on a graphic novel from Arcana Comics. The film debuts in spring 2022. Corrective Measures is set in the world’s most dangerous maximum-security penitentiary and houses the world’s most powerful criminals. The monsters, cyborgs, and villains are outfitted with 24-hour shock collars. Willis plays the notorious Julius “The Lobe” Loeb. Rooker plays the prison’s Warden Devlin.

Tubi

Tubi is a free video streaming service that includes on-demand access to 200,000+ movies and TV episodes - more than any other streaming service. Its ad breaks are shorter and less frequent than most free services. Fox executives have called their service “TV on steroids.”

The service includes 55+ live news channels affiliated with NBC, FOX, Cox Media Group, Hearst, and Scripps. Local affiliates provide coverage in most major media markets.

Tubi’s programming includes films and television series from Fox Entertainment, MGM, Paramount Pictures, Lionsgate, Sony Pictures, Warner Bros., NBCUniversal, Disney, and more.

  • Social media star David Dobrik now has his own show on Discovery+. The travel series stars Dobrik and several castmates from his YouTube channel. Discovery of David Dobrik, will debut later this year with 10 episodes. Dobrik, 25, was born in Slovakia, and his complicated immigration status — he has no green card — has made it difficult for him to travel outside the U.S. He arrived here at age six.

  • AccuWeatherNow, the new video streaming product from AccuWeather, is joining XUMO’s roster of over 200 channels. XUMO users can now access AccuWeather’s forecasts as well as daily programming, weather-related news, and long-and short-form documentaries through the streaming platform, accessible and free to watch and stream from any device.

Xumo Play

Xumo Play is a free video streaming service that includes on-demand access to several movies and TV shows. Xumo Play offers 290 free virtual channels, including those focused on reality TV, vintage TV, and game shows.
