YouTube TV Subscribers Getting Free Week for World Cup Outage

At around 2:45pm ET yesterday during the England vs. Croatia FIFA World Cup Semifinal, YouTube TV had a major outage leading to subscribers missing most of the match.

While some subscribers could log-in to the FOX Sports app with their YouTube TV credentials, the downtime was one of unfortunate timing especially for soccer fans.

Now the streaming giant is trying to make it right to customers.

Subscribers have begun receiving emails informing them that they will be receiving a week of free service.

The email reads:

We’re really sorry for the recent YouTube TV outage during the FIFA World Cup Semifinal. We love our TV as much as you do, and our goal is to make sure that you can access your favorite TV - whenever and however you want.

To help make this right, we’d like to give you a week of free service. You’ll receive another email soon confirming your account has been credited.

Additionally, any recording (including the game) during the downtime will be preserved so you can watch it on your DVR.

While this won’t make yesterday’s outage go away, it is a nice gesture from the service.
