Amazon Greenlights ‘Modern Love’ For Second Season

Amazon has renewed the series “Modern Love,” the show based on the popular The New York Times’ column. Produced by Amazon Studios, Storied Media Group, Likely Story and The New York Times, it streams to more than 200 countries.

The second season will kick off next year. The show explores “love in its multitude of forms – including sexual, romantic, familial, platonic and self love.”

Despite some mixed reviews, the eight-part series, which debuted October 18, earned a second season. The first season featured various stars, including Anne Hathaway, Tina Fey, Andy Garcia, Dev Patel, John Slattery and Catherine Keener.

John Carney, best known for directing the movie “Once,” adapted the column to the screen, writing and directing several episodes, in addition to executive producer duties. “The possibilities are truly endless. Subsequent seasons can really branch out and dig deep into what it means to love in this complicated world,” Carney stated.

The “Modern Love” column, which has published more than 750 essays since its launch, is celebrating its 15th anniversary this month. Daniel Jones has edited the column since inception. Jones who has said the time is right for a screen incarnation, stated: “John Carney sees both the column and the series as being about the importance of human connection in troubled times, about trying to be good to each other.”

Earlier this month, to capitalize on its TV presence, The New York Times launched a “Modern Love” merchandise line that includes shirts, hoodies and totes.
