Disney+ debuted a teaser video for the upcoming visual album “Black is King” written, directed and executive produced by 24-time Grammy Award-winner Beyoncé. It will become available on Disney+ around-the-world on July 31, 2020, one year after the release of “The Lion King” (which she starred in).
In production for the last year, the visual album from Beyoncé reimagines the lessons of “The Lion King” for today’s young kings and queens in search of their own crowns. The film is a story for the ages that informs and rebuilds the present. A reunion of cultures and shared generational beliefs. A story of how the people left most broken have an extraordinary gift and a purposeful future.
This is the second musical being released by Disney+ in July. In May, Disney announced that the the filmed version of hit Broadway musical “Hamilton” would come directly to the streaming service. The 11-time Tony Award-winning musical, which was supposed to hit theaters in October 2021, will now be available on July 3.
