BritBox Reaches Half a Million Subscribers, Doubling Since Last Year
Britbox, a digital video streaming service for British Television, reached over 500,000 subscribers in the United States and Canada — doubling from last year.. The service launched March 2017 and quickly gained popularity with American women age 45+, who now represent nearly 60% of the subscriber base.
Britbox is a joint venture between BBC Studios and ITV, and offers the largest collection of British television in the United States and Canada. It features classics, exclusive premieres, and current series, and they are usually available within 24 hours of their UK premiere. Popular shows on Britbox include EastEnders, Coronation Street, Emmerdale, Vera, Five by Five, Broken, and Maigret. Subscribers can also stream classic movies such as Pride and Prejudice and A Christmas Carol.
With the growing success of Britbox, there have been plans on funding more original series.

The company isn’t the only one with British television content. One of Britbox’s competitors, Acorn TV, allows subscribers to stream popular commercial-free television like A Place To Call Home, Doc Marten and Agatha Raisin. The service, which costs $4.99 a month ($49.99 a year), is on pace to hit a million subscribers this year.
