CBSN Averaging 1 Million Streams Per Day, Expects to Expand to All 13 Major Markets Where CBS Has Local News Operations

In a second quarter earnings call today, the company revealed that CBS News is pulling in major numbers online, with the platform averaging one million streams per day.

“Susan Zirinsky has welcomed in a new day at CBS News. Quality broadcast journalism is the surest way to success and we feel very good about the road ahead as Susan and her team continue to make that happen on a daily basis. Susan and CBS Interactive continue to grow CBSN which is now averaging more than one million streams per day, where our average viewers’ median age is just 37-years-old,” said an executive of the company.

The Company today for the first time confirmed its plans to launch a CBSN Local service in the nine remaining markets where CBS has a local television news organization. All nine markets will debut their CBSN Local services by early 2020.

The nine markets included in this expanded launch plan are Chicago (local news content provided by WBBM-TV), Dallas-Ft. Worth (KTVT-TV), Philadelphia (KYW and WPSG-TV), Minneapolis-St. Paul (WCCO-TV), Denver (KCNC-TV), Miami (WFOR-TV), Sacramento (KOVR and KMAX-TV), Pittsburgh (KDKA and WPCW-TV) and Baltimore (WJZ-TV).

Back in June, CBS launched CBSN Los Angeles which added anchored news coverage and live breaking news events from the Los Angeles market. The streaming channel features live streams of KCBS and KCAL’s daily newscasts, as well as exclusive newscasts at 7:00 AM and 1:00 PM.
