DAZN will no longer air their MLB Whiparound show “ChangeUp,” which was hosted by Adnan Virk and Scott Rogowsky, The Streamable has learned. The show, which launched ahead of the 2019 MLB season, was a live look-in show most similar to the NFL RedZone channel.
A DAZN spokesperson declined to comment.
At the time, DAZN had reached a three-year, $300 million deal to bring the live show every weeknight, switching between major moments in games. The show was produced by MLB Network, which has their own similar channel called MLB Network Strike Zone.
The pandemic has hit DAZN particularly hard due to lack of live sports. The company has reportedly been deferring rights fee payments, while placing employees on furlough.
Part of the decision to add the show originally, was the lack of available pro sports rights in the U.S.
At the time, DAZN Chairman, John Skipper had said that their needs to be other content and the service needs to become “be a multi-sports aggregator.”
Until this deal, the service has focused on boxing and MMA rights in the U.S. DAZN which launched in the U.S. in September offers 80+ fights a year from Matchroom USA, Bellator, Golden Boy Promotions, World Boxing Super Series and Combate Americas.
Most recently, the streaming service reached a deal with Major League Wrestling.
In November 2019, DAZN reportedly hit 8 million users, with 90 percent of those coming from outside the U.S. In comparison ESPN+, which reached 7.9 million paid subscribers this past quarter, but all of their audience is the U.S.
In Germany, however, they just reached a four-year deal for the domestic rights to Bundesliga.
