Disney Remaking ‘Robin Hood’ as Live-Action Movie Exclusively for Disney Plus
After the successes of “The Lion King,” “Aladdin” and “Mulan,” Disney is continuing their remake streak with a live action rendition of “Robin Hood.” The film, which will be helmed by “Blindspotting” director Carlos López Estrada, will be available exclusively on Disney+. Kari Granlund, who wrote the “Lady and the Tramp” remake, is slated for the screenplay.
According to The Verge, not only will the new “Robin Hood” feature the animals as “anthropomorphic” creatures, but the film is also coming back as a musical. Due to the coronavirus outbreak, it’s not clear when the company plans on beginning the project as productions have shut down worldwide.
Just last week, Variety reported that employees at each of the media giant’s film labels have been affected by furloughs. According to Variety, “staffers at labels like Marvel, Lucasfilm, Pixar, Searchlight and more were notified of furloughs, primarily impacting staffers who cannot perform their job duties due to ongoing shutdowns related to the coronavirus pandemic.”
Variety’s sources revealed that employees in the companies’ marketing and distribution departments were the latest to get hit, seeing as though a slew of theaters across the nation have been shuttered in an effort curb the coronavirus. A timeline for when the furloughs may end wasn’t revealed.
