Disney+ is gearing up for a new “Star Wars” series, according to Variety.
The twist is that this version will be female-led and take place in a separate location within the vast “Star Wars” universe.
The new version is the brainchild of Leslye Headland, who is the co-creator and executive producer of “Russian Doll,” the hit show currently streaming on Netflix.
Headland will be writer-showrunner for the as-yet untitled “Star Wars” drama.
The streamer also announced today that pre-production has begun on season three of its lauded series “The Mandalorian.”
Disney, which distributes the “Star Wars” franchise, has two upcoming projects: an Obi-Wan Kenobi series with Ewan McGregor and a Cassian Andor series with Diego Luna.
The animated “Clone Wars” ends season seven on May 4.
