Fox Nation Streaming Service Expands to New Genres, True-Crime to Music

Fox News’ streaming service, Fox Nation, is committed to conservative politics and issues. But to broaden its audience, the year-old service is testing new categories to gain subscribers, Bloomberg Business reports.

John Finley, the executive who runs Fox Nation, says the streamer’s programming success isn’t solely political, as long as it promotes the “same Fox values appealing to Middle America,” he told Bloomberg. “Programs don’t have to be about Donald Trump or politics or impeachment,” he added. “It could be crime or it could be history or travel.”

Upcoming on Fox Nation: A new true-crime show hosted by Nancy Grace, which debuts this month. In February, country-music star John Rich will kick off a program exploring the American dream. This spring, the streamer will air hunting and fishing shows featuring network talent and celebrities.

Scripted shows may follow. For now, “Deputy,” about a sheriff in search of justice, is broadcast on Fox but available on Fox Nation.

While Parks Associates estimates that Fox Nation has 200,000 to 300,000 subscribers, Bloomberg said that “Finley declined to disclose how many subscribers Fox Nation has, but said he was happy with its growth so far.”

Still, in an election year, politics is key. The Fox Nation app offers subscribers a limited live feed of the Fox News channel. Also, former CBS News reporter Lara Logan debuted “Lara Logan Has No Agenda” on the streamer Jan. 6. The new show tackles four topics: immigration, media bias, socialism and veterans.

Fox Nation costs $5.99/month.
