HBO Max Brings ‘Big Bang Theory’ Franchise Under One Roof as Streamer Acquires Rights to ‘Young Sheldon’

Only two days after a fiery debut, HBO Max is keeping the buzz going as they have now snagged the rights to be the exclusive streaming home of “Young Sheldon.” The streamer struck a deal with sister company Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution, bringing all three seasons of the hit show to the platform. “Young Sheldon” joins parent sitcom “The Big Bang Theory,” whose streaming rights were snagged by WarnerMedia back in September.

WarnerMedia has told The Streamable that the deal will see “Young Sheldon” remain on CBS streaming platforms (including CBS All Access) during the current broadcast season, but will join HBO Max after the season ends. No set date for the first three seasons to come to HBO Max, but its expected to be soon.

“We now feel like our Big Bang offering is complete,” said Kevin Reilly, chief content officer, HBO Max, president TNT, TBS, and TruTV. “We are so proud to be the home of this beloved franchise and the place where new and existing fans can learn about young Sheldon Cooper’s roots.”

“Young Sheldon” follows the the young years of the idiosyncratic genius we meet in “The Big Bang Theory.” The series, which comes back to CBS in the fall, chronicles Sheldon’s upbringing in East Texas, as he navigates the world as a genius, while his family tries to navigate their way around him.

The show stars stars Iain Armitage as the titular character, as well as Zoe Perry, Lance Barber, Montana Jordan, Raegan Revord, with Annie Potts, and Jim Parsons as the voice of Sheldon. “Young Sheldon” was created by Chuck Lorre and Steven Molaro, who also serve as executive producers along with Steve Holland, Jim Parsons and Todd Spiewak.
