HBO Max Orders 3 New Shows From J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot, WB Television

HBO Max has greenlit three new dramas from Bad Robot Productions and Warner Bros. Television.

The first is “Duster,” about a Southwest crime syndicate that goes dangerously awry. It’s co-written by J.J. Abrams (“Lost”) and LaToya Morgan (“The Walking Dead”).

The second, “Overlook,” is a horror show inspired by Stephen King’s “The Shining.” The entry is billed as “the untold, terrifying stories of the most famous haunted hotel in American fiction.”

The third drama is based on “Justice League Dark” Universe characters. The substance will be shared at a later date.

The new deal is the upcoming streamer’s first with J.J. Abrams and Katie McGrath’s Bad Robot. Abrams will also executive produce the trio. However, Bad Robot does have a history with Warner Bros. Television, producing HBO’s “Westworld” and Hulu’s “Castle Rock.”

In December, HBO Max announced the sci-fi classic “Snow Crash,” a coming-of-age drama “Vegas High” and “The Beach,” based on Melissa de la Cruz’s book “Beach Lane” — were also in the works.

HBO Max debuts next month with 10,000 hours of curated premium content for $14.99 a month.
