In the late 90s, after Wes Craven pretty much single-handedly brought horror back from a disastrous drought with Scream, a flock of teen horror imitators showed up. One of the many in that field was I Know What You Did Last Summer, and now, that story is returning as a TV series. I Know What You Did Last Summer arrives on Friday, October 15. You can watch it with a subscription to Prime Video.

About ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’
The original movie took us to a seaside town with lots of fog and atmosphere-building tension. The series, meanwhile, puts itself immediately in a handicap by taking us to a “sun-soaked Hawaiian town”, where the scariest thing is probably pineapples.
A group of friends in a Hawaiian town ends up involved in a “tragic accident.” One year later — much like the original film — one of the group receives a threatening message from someone who seems to know exactly what that person and her friend group did the previous summer — specifically the incident involving the “tragic accident.” Moreover, the person sending the message seems very intent on ensuring that the friends pay for what happened.
As it turns out, there are a lot of crimes going on here. The trailer runs down our friends wonderfully, introducing us to a sociopath and a drug addict before settling down to the liar and the one who committed vehicular manslaughter. Or possibly just assault, depending on how close the new series stays to the original source material.
Naturally, to try and turn a book into a 90-minute movie takes some effort as you have to weed out a lot of material. To turn it into a series often requires it to go in the other direction. It should be interesting to see what new twists and turns the series will generate as it tries to turn a book into a whole lot more when it comes out this Friday.
In a sun-soaked Hawaiian town with a mysterious past, a group of friends is left with a dark secret after a tragic accident. One year later, a member of the group receives a threatening message, and the friends now know that someone intends to make them pay for last summer.
