Fern Siegel

Isla Fisher and Jillian Bell are starring in Disney+’s live-action comedy “Godmothered,” currently in production.

Bell (“Brittany Runs a Marathon,” “Workaholics”) plays Eleanor, a novice fairy godmother-in-training, worried her profession is becoming passé. When she finds a dated letter from Mackenzie, a then 12-year-old girl, she’s determined help her.

What she discovers is a now 40-year-old widowed single mother (Fisher, “Confessions of a Shopaholic,” “Wedding Crashers”) in Boston.

Mackenzie’s life needs some TLC, so Eleanor uses a little magic to get her a happily-ever-after ending.
The screenplay is by Kari Granlund (“Lady and the Tramp”) and Melissa K. Stack (“The Other Woman”).

“Godmothered” is directed by Sharon Maguire (“Bridget Jones’s Diary,” “Bridget Jones’s Baby”).

Joining Bell and Fisher in a supporting role is Emmy-winner Jane Curtin (“Kate & Allie,” “Saturday Night Live”) as headmistress of The Motherland.

In the nonfiction category, Disney+ has greenlit four new series, including a remake of the fantasy-reality competition show “The Quest.”

In addition, the streamer’s CGI animated series “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” will debut its seventh and final season on Feb. 21.

Disney+, which launched Nov. 12, is the streaming home for movies and shows from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, “Star Wars” and National Geographic.
