About ‘Irresistible’

Stewart, who rose to fame skewering politicians as the host of the satiric “Daily Show,” is back to challenge the entrenched concepts behind elections.

“Irresistible” stars Steve Carell as a Democratic political consultant trying to get a retired Marine colonel (Chris Cooper) elected in a small, right-wing Wisconsin town. The Dems are hoping to make inroads in a Midwest they narrowly lost in the 2016 presidential race. He is opposed by Republican consultant Rose Byrne.

The movie also stars Mackenzie Davis, Topher Grace and Natasha Lyonne.

The film begins as a simple mayoral run, but soon escalates into a battle for the Heartland.

Stewart’s objective, much like his “Daily Show” stance, is to question the status quo, shining a light on political parties, the media and the money needed to compete.

In 2014, Stewart wrote and directed “Rosewater,” a political drama based on the memoir “Then They Came For Me.” It tells the story of Maziar Bahari, who was jailed in Iran as a spy after doing a “Daily Show” interview.
