Netflix Adds Classic Black Sitcoms to Lineup, ‘Moesha’ and ‘The Game’ Lead Rollout in August

Here’s to Netflix for always giving the people what they want. The streaming service announced they will be bringing some of the most beloved Black sitcoms onto their platform beginning in August. “Moesha” and “The Game” will be the first to drop, launching on Aug. 1 and Aug. 15, respectively, while “Sister, Sister,” “Girlfriends,” “The Parkers,” “Half & Half” and “One on One” rollout onto platform in the fall.

“Seriously the best work of my life,” tweeted Jasmyn Lawson, Editorial Manager at Netflix’s Strong Black Lead. “We’ve been working through the logistics to bring these shows to the platform for a very long time. And we’ve been working on the launch plan for months. I can’t believe the news is finally out.”

“Sister, Sister,” will be available on Sept. 1, followed by “Girlfriends,” on Sept. 11. “The Parkers,” will come out on Oct. 1, while “Half & Half,” and “One on One” will both be available on Oct. 15.

These new additions are the latest in Netflix’s efforts to highlight black creatives. Back in June, the streamer launched 45-plus titles about racial injustice and features on Black Americans into a new Black Lives Matter collection.

Users in the U.S. have access to movies, documentaries and TV shows, which include a range of titles, from Michelle Obama’s “Becoming” to the Oscar-winning “Moonlight.” Also included in the collections are Netflix originals, “Dear White People,” “13th,” “Mudbound,” “When They See Us” and Spike Lee’s “Da 5 Bloods.”
