Netflix CEO Reed Hastings donated $1 million to the Center for Policy Equity, which tracks racial bias in law enforcement, reports Variety.
He tweeted: “Great organization that has been working on this big problem for a decade.”
The streamer has been one of the first media companies to support the Black Lives Matter movement, following the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis last week.
Black Americans are two to four times more likely than white Americans to have law enforcement use force against them, per the New York-based think tank. The Center for Policy Equity produces research that identifies the reasons for racial disparities in policing and suggests ways to reduce tensions.
To highlight the issue, the Netflix executive recommend the TED Talk by Phillip Atiba Goff, CEO of the Center for Policing Equity. It’s titled: “How we can make racism a solvable problem — and improve policing.”
Hastings and his wife, Patty Quillin, are major philanthropists. They also donated $30 million to Gavi Alliance, a nonprofit immunization organization started by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation that funds immunization programs in lower-income nations.
