Netflix’s 10-Episode Adaptation of ‘The Baby-Sitters Club’ Now Available to Watch

Stephanie Sengwe

Netflix is tapping into some of your teen nostalgia with the premiere of “The Baby-Sitters Club.” The streaming giant announced they would debut the 10-episode series back in May. The series is based on novels by Ann M. Martin which were published between 1986 and 2000 and comes 25 years after the film adaption, which was directed by Melanie Mayron back in 1995.

“The Baby-Sitter’s Club” follows a group of five middle-schoolers who, through their business venture, create a bond and friendship in the town of Stoneybrook, Connecticut. The series aims to continue to inspire young women of “different backgrounds, personalities and opinions,” according to Deadline.

The cast includes Kristy Thomas (Sophie Grace), Mary Anne Spier (Malia Baker), Claudia Kishi (Momona Tamada), Stacey McGill (Shay Rudolph) and Dawn Schafer (Xochitl Gomez) as the middle-schoolers. Alicia Silverstone also stars as Elizabeth Thomas-Brewer, single mother of Kristy and love interest of good guy Watson Brewer, played by Mark Feuerstein.

Along with writing the books, Martin also served as producer on the show, while “Broad City’s” Lucia Aniello doubled as executive producer and director. “Glow’s” Rachel Shukert served as showrunner.
