New Shows Streaming This Week, Including ‘Cursed’ on Netflix and ‘Brave New World’ on Peacock

It’s a busy week for streaming, especially with NBCUniversal’s Peacock debuting tomorrow. And the choices are myriad — from a new “Psych” movie to the third season of “Absentia.” There is a variety of shows and genres for every viewer. Here’s a look at the new shows premiering this week on a variety of streamers:

Tuesday, July 14

  • “The Business of Drugs” (Netflix) — In this docuseries, former CIA officer Amaryllis Fox tracks the war on drugs worldwide and the economic fortunes that drive the illicit trade.

Wednesday, July 15

New Peacock premieres:

  • “Brave New World” is an adaptation of Aldous Huxley’s popular novel about a utopian society that achieves peace by outlawing money, monogamy, family and privacy.

  • “The Capture” – A British thriller about a Special Forces corporal trying to clear his name of a crime supposedly captured on CCTV.

  • “Cleopatra in Space” —The Egyptian princess gets caught in a time portal and propelled 30,000 years into the future, where she has to save the Nile Galaxy.

  • “Curious George” – The adventures of the beloved monkey George and the Man with the Yellow Hat.

  • “In Deep With Ryan Lochte” — A documentary about the Olympic swimmer and the 2016 incident in Rio that changed his life.

  • “Intelligence” – A comedy in which an NSA officer (David Schwimmer) proves a huge pain to the head of the cyber crimes unit in the UK.

  • “Lost Speedways With Dale Earnhardt Jr.” — Retired NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. shares his love of old, often abandoned tracks in the docuseries.

  • “Psych 2: Lassie Come Home” — Best friends Shawn and Gus put their deductive powers to the test in a second movie mystery.

  • “Where’s Waldo?” — An animated kids series based on the “Where’s Waldo” books, it follows members of the WorldWide Wanderer Society.

Thursday, July 16

  • “House of Ho” (HBO Max) — charts the lives of the wealthy Vietnamese-America Ho family living in Houston, Texas.

Friday, July 17

  • “Absentia” Season 3 premiere (Amazon Prime; all episodes) An FBI agent, declared dead in absentia, fights to reclaim her family, identity and innocence, when accused of murder.

  • “Cursed” (Netflix — A revamp of the Arthurian legend, this time featuring a teen sorceress and a mercenary called Arthur.

  • “Into the Dark: The Current Occupant” season three premiere (Hulu) — The horror anthology opens with a man in a psychiatric ward who has no memory, but believes he is the U.S. president

  • It’s a Dog’s Life With Bill Farmer Season 1 finale (Disney+) — Bill meets snake search dogs and Hawaiian conversation dogs.

  • “We Are Freestyle Love Supreme” (Hulu) The doc follows the improvisational hip hop group, which includes Lin-Manuel Miranda before his “Hamilton” fame.

Saturday, July 18

  • “The Last Dance” (Netflix) — The doc, which first debuted on ESPN, follows basketball great Michael Jordan, especially his last season with the Chicago Bulls.
