It’s “Marathon Weekend” for NBC Sports with the Chicago Marathon on Sunday and the Boston Marathon on Peacock and NBC Sports Network.
The weekend kicks off with live coverage of the Chicago Marathon on Sunday morning at 8 am ET. Among the Americans competing are two-time Olympic medalist and 2017 Chicago Marathon champion Galen Rupp, and Sara Hall, who will be attempting to break the American marathon record. Ruth Chepngetich of Kenya will also be competing in the race.
Calling the action in the Windy City for NBC Sports will be Paul Swangard, along with analysts Kara Goucher, a two-time Olympian, and seven-time Paralympian Chris Waddell.
The Boston Marathon is celebrating its 125th Anniversary this year, and while it is still not in its traditional springtime slot, it is running an actual race this year instead of a virtual race as they did in 2020. Live coverage of the Boston Marathon begins Monday morning at 7:30 am ET.
Fourteen former champions highlight this year’s elite field, including 2018 Boston Marathon Champion and two-time Olympian Des Linden. Fellow Americans Jordan Hasay, who twice has finished third in Boston, as well as Molly Huddle, a 28-time national champion on the roads and track who returns to Boston for a second time, also look to factor into the race. They will be challenged by 2016 Olympic bronze medalists Mare Dibaba and Yebrgual Melese, both from Ethiopia. Two-time men’s winner Lelisa Desisa, who is also from Ethiopia, headlines the men’s field and will be challenged by a pair of Americans in five-time Olympian Abdi Abdirahman and Scott Fauble, the top American finisher at the 2019 edition of this race.
Swangard, Goucher, Waddell, along with NBC Sports Boston’s Amina Smith will call the Boston Marathon.
