At Google I/O, the company’s annual developer conference — Google revealed a new feature coming to Android TV devices which will allow third-party developers to integrate with the Google Assistant. The feature can pull in guide data from Live TV Streaming Services and let you search by voice. Since the Assistant knows what’s on Live TV, it can launch directly to the channel within an app.
One of their early partners is Philo, who worked with Google to show off the feature. In the demo, you could say on Android TV, “switch to HGTV on Philo” and the app will open the live channel directly in Philo.
While other streaming players and services have introduced similar voice search capabilities — this will simplify it so more third-party developers can create rich voice experiences on Android TV.
