Quibi and CBS News Partner Up for Short-Form Version of ‘60 Minutes’

Stephanie Sengwe

A more condensed version of 60 Minutes will be making its way to Quibi come April 2020. The newer version, titled 60 in 6, will offer the same gripping news content as the original, but will do so in only six minutes. This short-form version will have separate stories and different correspondents than the show veterans who appear on the Sunday night version on CBS.

“This is a perfect opportunity to bring ’60 Minutes’ style of storytelling, in-depth reporting and investigative journalism to a new audience,” said Bill Owens, the executive producer of the series, in a statement. “We are excited to launch ’60 In 6′, as our digital footprint is more important than ever.” The show will dedicate a team correspondents and producers to the effort.

Quibi, which was founded by DreamWorks founder, Jeffrey Katzenberg, and former eBay CEO, Meg Whitman is set to launch next April. Just yesterday, the streaming service announced ESPN as another content partner. ESPN will be the exclusive U.S. multi-sport content provider for Quibi’s curated news and information programming, Daily Essentials. The new ESPN show, available only on Quibi, will feature daily episodes and breaking news covering the biggest stories in sports.

Quibi (short for quick bites) will focus on high-quality short form content that is designed to be watched on your smartphone. The mobile streaming streaming will offer two plans — $4.99 with ads and $7.99 without ads. The ad-supported product will include a pre-roll ad, as well as a 1-2 mid-roll ads depending on the length of the content.
