Quibi to Revive Nickelodeon Hit ‘Legends of the Hidden Temple’

Nickelodeon is bringing one of its 1990s hit shows to the small screen. A revamped version of “Legends of the Hidden Temple” will debut on the mobile platform Quibi in April.

The purple parrots and the shrine of the silver monkey are back, so are the Temple Run and Moat Crossing in the revived competition show, now geared to a millennial audience.

A grown-up viewership means more inspired, tougher challenges — alongside bigger prizes. The original show was filmed in Nickelodeon Studios in Orlando, Florida, and focused on a Mayan temple filled with lost treasures. During its heyday, Entertainment Weekly described the show as “’Gladiators’ meets ‘Young Indiana Jones Chronicles.’”

Now, the set is a real jungle that capitalizes on the action-adventure skill sets of participants. The stakes are higher, the obstacles risker, but some of the original elements, like Olmec, remain in the new, supersized version.

Scott A. Stone, one of the original show/game creators, doubles as executive producer of the new short-form series.

“I have been so lucky to be part of this defining millennial show, and now there is a defining millennial platform to go with it,” Stone said.
