Sinclair CEO Says Being Dropped by fuboTV Was ‘Immaterial,’ In ‘Active Negotiations’ With YouTube TV For Marquee Sports Network

Earlier this year, fuboTV customers were surprised when the now Sinclair-owned Fox Regional Sports Networks were dropped from the Live TV Streaming Service on January 1. The Streamable learned that as part of the dispute, nearly 30 Fox affiliates owned or managed by Sinclair were also removed from the service.

In most of these markets, fuboTV replaced the Sinclair-owned affiliates with Fox’s National Feed called FoxNet, but in other markets like Buffalo, Columbus (OH), Green Bay, Oklahoma City and San Antonio, Fox was removed entirely.

Today, during their Q4 earnings call, Sinclair CEO Chris Ripley revealed that being dropped by fuboTV didn’t have a huge impact on the company. “We did take fuboTV out of our guidance, but it was immaterial … We just recently added Marquee onto Hulu and YouTube is an active negotiation that’s near term,” he stated.

For months, Sinclair has also been in a carriage dispute with Dish Network over Fox Regional Sports Networks. During their Q4 2019 earnings call last week, Charlie Ergen, Dish Network co-founder and chairman of the board, doubled down on his previous statements and alluded to the fact that the company has been able to save money due to the fact that they no longer need to pay to carry those channels.

He explained that since they dropped those RSNs in July, only a fraction of die-hard viewers remain at this point. So, it doesn’t make sense for Dish to shell out a lot of money for the channels and charge remaining customers when their main audience is no longer on the network.
