The New Apple TV App is a Universal Cable Box That Will Let You Stream PlayStation Vue, Hulu, DIRECTV NOW, & ESPN+ Without Leaving the App

At this morning’s keynote, Apple announced their highly anticipated Amazon Prime Video Channels competitor called Apple Channels coming via a software update this May. Users can access 25+ premium partners including: HBO, Showtime, & Starz.

They also revealed some major enhancements to their TV App that will turn it into a universal cable box. Apple has partnered with live streaming services, sports apps, and SVOD services to stream content directly from their TV App.

Out of the gate, the company has partnered with PlayStation Vue, DIRECTV NOW, and Spectrum to bring live TV, while services like ESPN+ and MLB.TV will no longer require you leave the TV App to tune into a game. In terms of SVOD, Apple has partnered with Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, NBC, and ABC to stream on-demand shows.
