‘The Umbrella Academy’ Snags Top Spot in Digital Originals Rankings a Week After Season 2 Premiere

The second season premiere of Netflix’s “The Umbrella Academy” did not disappoint. According to Media Play News, the show snagged the number one spot on Parrot Analytics’ digital originals rankings the week after it premiered. The series was widely popular and garnered 121.7 times the demand of the average series as demand for the show rose 154 percent from its premiere week when it was at number two.

“The Umbrella Academy” dethroned “Stranger Things,” which had the top spot for seven consecutive weeks and has always charted with or without new episodes. Disney+’s “The Mandalorian” was steady at number three, with 45.7 times the demand of the average show and expressions down 2.6 percent. “The Witcher” and DC Universe’s “Titans” rounded out the top five for the week ending Aug. 8.

Netflix announced the season two premiere of “The Umbrella Academy” back in May. The original series is based on Dark Horse Comics title created and written by Gerard Way and illustrated by Gabriel Bá.

The series follows a group of six siblings who are all adopted by billionaire Reginald Hargreeves and enrolled into The Umbrella Academy where they’re prepped to be superheroes.

Ellen Page, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher and Justin H. Min will reprise their roles as unlikely heroes, and they will be joined by Ritu Arya, Yusuf Gatewood and Marin Ireland this season.
