SCOOP: These Disney, Star Wars, Marvel, & Pixar Movies Won’t Be Available on Disney Plus at Launch, But This is When They’re Coming

Jason Gurwin

When Disney+ launches tomorrow, there will be hundreds of movies and recent episodes of TV. In fact, the first year will include 25 new original series, 10+ movies, 7,500 past episodes, 100 recent movies, and 400 library titles including the entire Disney Vault.

For families, the prospect of accessing hundreds of classic films and TV shows is a major attraction. A remake of “The Lady and the Tramp” and “Noelle” will be available day one, so is “Beauty and the Beast,” “Aladdin” and “Toy Story.”

And that doesn’t count the lush animated masterpieces from the Disney vault, such as “Snow White,” “Alice in Wonderland” and “Peter Pan,” dating back decades. Many underscore how Disney elevated animation to a serious art form.

However, it’s also helpful for subscribers to know the streamer’s limitations. For various reasons, either contractual deals with other studios, material now deemed inappropriate for modern audience or films too new to stream, some movies won’t run on the Disney+ service at launch. The good news is that most titles unavailable to stream today will be coming to the service in 2020 and 2021.

What Movies Are Unavailable on Disney+ at Launch?

Most of the movies that are unavailable are currently streaming on other services like HBO and Netflix.

For Marvel fans, there’s some good news and bad news. Black Panther will be arriving on Disney+ next March, while Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 won’t be coming until June 2021. Those signing-up for Star Wars will get nearly every title, except The Last Jedi, which is coming right after Christmas, and Solo will be join the service next July.

The Pixar film Coco, which is currently on Netflix, will be joining Disney+ is just a few weeks, while Incredibles 2 will be coming next July.

Other recent titles that will be coming to Disney+ in the coming years is Mary Poppins Returns and The Jungle Book which will join the service in January 2021 and May 2021 respectively.
