What’s Coming to Streaming, Including ‘Love Life’ and ‘Mother/Android’

Season two of “Love Life” on HBO Max kicks off Oct. 28. The show’s plot is shifting its focus from Anne Kendrick, who plays Darby Carter, to William Jackson Harper’s character, Marcus Watkins. Both actors are also executive producers on the series. Narrated by Keith David, new characters will come to the fore as part of Marcus’ life as a single guy in New York. They include: Punkie Johnson, Leslie Bibb, John Earl Jelks, Jessica Williams, Chris Powell, Janet Hubert, and Blair Underwood.

  • Hulu’s sci-fi thriller “Mother/Android” premieres Dec. 17. Screenwriter Mattson Tomlin (“Project Power” and “The Batman”) makes his directorial debut. The film stars Chloë Grace Moretz, Algee Smith and Raúl Castillo. Set in the near future, “Mother/Android” follows Georgia (Chloë Grace Moretz) and her boyfriend Sam (Algee Smith) as they escape from an artificial intelligence waging war in their country.

  • Uma Thurman has been cast as Huffington Post co-founder Arianna Huffington in season one of Showtime's anthology series “Super Pumped,” which will be about the taxi-cab replacement company Uber. Huffington was an Uber board member.

  • “Rise,” a new film based on real life story about the first trio of brothers to become NBA champions, will stream on Disney+ in 2022. Giannis and Thanasis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks and Los Angeles Laker Kostas Antetokounmpo are a sibling phenomenon. They are a unique mix of Nigerian heritage, Greek nationality and extraordinary athletic ability. “Rise” charts the family’s determination and faith as it encourage their sons’ sports careers.

  • “Mythic Quest” got a season three and season four renewal order from Apple TV+. “Mythic Quest” follows the team behind the biggest multiplayer video game of all time. In addition to Rob McElhenney, who stars as the fictional company’s creative director, as well as the show’s creator and executive producer, the ensemble cast includes F. Murray Abraham, Danny Pudi, Imani Hakim, Charlotte Nicdao and Ashly Burch.

  • Michael Gandolfini has joined the cast of Paramount+’s “The Offer, ” about the making of “The Godfather.” He plays Andy Calhoun, a businessman who is attempting to buy Paramount. Gandolfini, son of “Sopranos” star James Gandolfini, is currently starring in HBO Max’s the “Many Saints of Newark,” as a younger Tony Soprano, in the prequel to “The Sopranos.”

  • International streamer MHz Choice will premiere five new series in November. They include the Italian family saga “A Promised Life,” the Icelandic comedy-drama “Happily Never After,” an offbeat comedy from France, “Changing Rooms,” in which each of the 23 episodes lasts no more than three minutes, Germany’s twisted “Marnnow Murders,” about a serial killer, and the Belgian caper “A Good Year,” about a gang of misfits who claim to have found Hitler’s wine cellar.

  • discovery+ is now available on Contour 2 and the Contour Stream Player. The nonfiction subscription streaming service, focuses on true crime, food, paranormal, adventure and home genres. It’s holiday central lab, launching Nov. 1, will feature “Candy Coated Christmas” with Ree Drummond and “Home: Town: Ben’s Holiday Workshop.” Other November titles include “Kendra Sells Hollywood” and the BBC series “The Mating Game.”

  • “The Hardy Boys” is going abroad. Nelvana, a leading producer and distributor of children’s animated and live-action content, has secured international distribution for The Hardy Boys on Disney+ outside of the U.S. and Canada. It will launch in select international markets in 2022.“The Hardy Boys” is based on the books by Franklin W. Dixon and features two teen detectives.

  • SVOD Ameba TV teamed with Green Apple Entertainment to bring 12 new films to its service in the U.S. and Canada. Ameba’s catalog has over 14,000 titles. Green Apple will add shows such as “Treasure State,” which follows two teens who stop bandits and survive in the brutal wilderness. Other titles included in the deal are “The Little Wizard: Guardian of the Magic Crystals,” “Harriet and Herbert’s Day at the Beach” and “The Adventures of Acela.”
