Black News Channel To Launch Streaming Platform, BNC Go

Starting September 13, BNC Go will offer a new option for Black News Channel viewers.

If you’re already familiar with the content run on the Black News Channel, you’ll soon have a new option to keep up with all the latest news. Starting September 13, the channel will offer up its own streaming platform called BNC Go.

Once the platform launches, it will offer up content in two blocks. From 6:00 AM to 12 midnight Eastern, the company will air original content that can only be found on that platform. Several titles will run in this block, including The Morning Hype, The Midday Jolt, and After 6ix.

Then, from 12:01 AM to 6:00 AM Eastern, the platform will switch over to previously-aired content from the Black News Channel’s linear network.

Additionally, throughout the day, the platform will run a variety of themed content options based on currently-trending topics. This includes segments like Mind Your Business and OPP: Our People’s Politics.

Those interested will be able to catch BNC Go on Amazon Fire TV, Pluto TV, Roku, Samsung Smart TV, Tubi, Vizio Smart TV, and other platforms.

The platform is specifically geared toward millennial and Gen Z users. Given that these are the demographics most likely to view a streaming platform for news, it’s a safe bet that BNC Go will find plenty of interested users.

While the platform will certainly have its work cut out for it given the sheer amount of online news content that’s already available in the space, it’s also not likely that issues of inertia will keep too many users right where they are. That’s especially true given that BNC Go is likely to offer up content that its target market will want, so switching from one platform to another to get the content desired. The fact that BNC Go will feature content all day, and original content for most of the day, will likely give it an edge over other smaller competitors in the space.

If BNC Go can get some solid marketing behind it to get the word out to its target market that it exists, it will likely pull a decent following. Only the launch in a couple of weeks will tell the story for sure, however.

Steve Anderson got his start writing about direct to video movies almost 15 years ago. This was back in a time when video stores were a part of everyday life, as opposed to being roadside attractions like gator farms or the Biggest Ball of Twine in Minnesota. With that writing on the wall in huge day-glo capital letters and probably moving neon, Steve migrated to streaming, which was clearly the future of home entertainment. Steve has been an enthusiastic proponent of the home theater for years, however, and seeing streaming's growth has proven gratifying as a way to fill the video store's shoes.
