Cinemax Discontinues Producing Original Content, Will Not Be Featured on HBO Max

When WarnerMedia first announced they were launching HBO Max, Cinemax was expected to be featured on the streaming service. Now, however, it seems Cinemax content will no longer be on the platform as there have been some changes.

According to The Wrap, Cinemax will discontinue production of original shows and its current shows, such as “Jett” and “Warrior,” aren’t going to be featured on HBO Max when it launches in May. “I think you can expect there will not be any more Cinemax originals being produced going forward,” HBO Max CCO Kevin Reilly was quoted saying during the Television Critics Association press tour.

Michael Quigley, executive vice president of content acquisitions for HBO Max, concurred, stating, “We’re not planning to bring the Cinemax content into the service overall. I think it still serves an important value for its customers in terms of its movie offerings.”

The news comes as AT&T just announced that their channel Audience Network is going to stop its linear programming and become an HBO Max Preview Channel come spring. The channel originally launched under the moniker FreeView back in 1999 and then The 101 Network in 2005 before finally being renamed to Audience Network in 2010, according to Deadline.
