HBO Max’s Summer Comedy Festival goes for laughs on August 20.
The solo stand-ups include Rose Matafeo (“Horndog), Beth Stelling (“Girl Daddy”) and James Veitch. (“James Veitch: Straight to VHS”).
Veitch’s show is produced by Conan O’Brien’s Team Coco with Veitch. Team Coco is also producing “Girl Daddy.” Matafeo is producing with Avalon.
Matafeo boldly addresses issues of sex and love, while Stelling takes on consent, chauvinism and women’s body autonomy. Stelling says she’s been called a “female comic” so many times, she should be dubbed “girl daddy” if she ever has children. Veitch riffs on his own anxieties.
Also on the bill are various acts from the HA Comedy Festival with Latinx comics, hosted by Anjelah Johnson.
The Latinx comics include Gina Brillon, David del Rosario, Carmen Lynch, Monique Marvez, Pedro Salinas, Jesus Trejo, Mark Viera as well as special appearances from Eugenio Derbez, Eva Longoria and Danny Trejo.
The HA Comedy festival was filmed at the Empire Theater in San Antonio, Texas.
HBO Max, part of WarnerMedia, debuted in late May. WarnerMedia reported the streamer added 4.1 million subscribers in its first month after launch.
