Netflix Drops Trailer for ‘The Devil All the Time,’ Hulu Streams ‘Bad Hair’ in October

Netflix just released the “The Devil All the Time” trailer; the film will debut September 16. The film, adapted from Donald Ray Pollock’s book, focuses on an orphaned young man (Tom Holland), while charting the corrupt and broken men he meets between 1945 and the 1960s. Robert Pattinson plays an immoral preacher happy to break the rules.

Hulu will stream horror flick “Bad Hair” on October 23. Or as the streamer notes: “The horror satire is set in 1989, and an ambitious young woman gets a weave in order to succeed in the image-obsessed world of music television. However, her flourishing career may come at a great cost when she realizes that her new hair may have a mind of its own.” Justin Simien (“Dear White People”) wrote and directed the movie. The cast includes Elle Lorraine, Vanessa Williams, Jay Pharoah and Kelly Rowland.

Here’s a look at other deals and upcoming projects:

  • Blumhouse is teaming with Amazon Prime Video for more horror. “Welcome to the Blumhouse,” a program of eight scary genre movies, will be produced by Blumhouse Television and Amazon Studios. Amazon is launching the initial slate of four films as double features. The first set includes “The Lie,” from writer-director Veena Sud (“The Killing”), and “Black Box,” from writer-director Emmanuel Osei-Kuffour Jr. (“Born with It”). The pair premieres October 6.

  • “The Last Bus,” a 10-episode, live-action Netflix original, targets a family-friendly audience. A group of mismatched school kids join forces to face a frightening machine intelligence in a sci-fi action adventure. Created by Paul Neafcy, Lawrence Gough (“Dr. Who,” “Endeavor”) and Steve Hughes (“Creeped Out”) are onboard as directors.

  • “Time,” a look at mass incarceration in the U.S., debuts in select theaters October 9 prior to its Amazon Prime Video launch October 23. Premiering at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival, Garrett Bradley won best director for a U.S. documentary, the first black woman to win the prize. The streamer reportedly paid $5 million for global rights to “Time.”

  • True Crime Network, TEGNA’s 24/7 true-crime multicast network, has launched its free, ad-supported OTT streaming app on most major platforms. It will also include true-crime podcasts. The app includes more than 250 hours of true crime and mystery content. New episodes will be added each month, with more than 500 hours of content planned by the end of 2020. The app is available on Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, via mobile and tablet apps on iOS and Android operating systems, Chromecast, and at truecrimenetworktv.com. The app will also be available on Roku later in August.
