Vudu Launches Family-Viewing Features With Premiere of First Original Series, ‘Mr. Mom’
Walmart’s video-streaming service, Vudu has launched new parental controls, that allow parents to choose what their kids watch — including a way to skip scenes with sex, nudity or violence.
The service is introducing three new features: Family Play, which allows parents to automatically skip or mute content with profanity, sex and nudity, violence and substance abuse. It’s also offering ratings and reviews from Common Sense Media, and adding a “kids’ mode” setting that lets parents set age-based restrictions on what their children can watch or purchase.
These new features coincide with the premiere of Vudu’s first original series, Mr. Mom. The show, which is a reboot of the 1980s John Hughes comedy, has 11-episodes in the season. The first two were made available today and the rest will be released weekly. Vudu will also exclusively debut the first three episodes of Nickelodeon’s Blue’s Clues & You, on Sept. 27, before it premieres on Nickelodeon.
Viewers can watch Vudu for free with ads or purchase episodes for $1.49 each in HD, or the whole season for $7.99 for HD.
