22-year-old Nathan Chen is definitely an athlete to watch as he is back with a vengeance after missing out on a podium finish in men’s singles in PyeongChang. The American figure skating star has won 14 consecutive contests and three straight World Championships. He is the first skater to have landed five types of quadruple jumps in competition and eight quadruple jumps across a single competition, which he did at 2018 Worlds. Chen has been so dedicated to prepare for the 2022 Olympics, he even took a leave of absence at Yale University.
Mariah Bell (USA) and Alysa Liu (USA) are also strong contenders for gold. Bell is 25 years old and will compete in women’s singles. She won gold at the 2022 U.S Figure Skating Championship.
Liu is only a teen from the Bay Area yet has won two U.S. national titles. The 16-year-old made her senior international debut in 2021 at the Cranberry Cup, coming in first place. She is also the first American female skater to complete a quad jump in competition as well as the first junior American ladies’ singles skater to complete a triple Axel in international competition.
