Amazon Prime Video Snags Rights to Stream Schroders Battle of the Brits Tennis Tournament in the US

Amazon Prime Video has once again gotten the leg up on live streaming sports. According to Variety, the streaming service snagged the rights to live stream the Schroders Battle of the Brits — a six-day tennis tournament taking place from June 23 to 28 at the Lawn Tennis Association’s headquarters at Roehampton, England. Prime Video will stream the tournament in the U.S., along with Tennis Channel, which also has streaming rights in Germany, Switzerland and Austria, while Eurosport will stream in the rest of Europe.

The tournament will feature the UK’s top-ranked male players, including the Murray brothers — Andy and Jamie — as well as Dan Evans and Kyle Edmund. The players will compete for singles and doubles titles and the event is expected to raise at least £100,000 ($123,000) for charities linked to Britain’s National Health Service, Variety stated.

“We know that fans across the UK are missing live tennis, especially during the British summer, and we are sure this will delight them and give them a chance to see Andy, Jamie and the other top British male players in competitive action again. This builds on Prime Video’s ongoing support for British tennis,” stated Alex Green, managing director of Prime Video Sport Europe.

Amazon Prime Video has been staking claim in the live sports arena. Earlier this year, the streamer announced they are partnering up with The New York Yankees and YES Network to live stream 21 Yankees games during the 2020 regular season on Prime Video at no additional cost to Prime members. (The season was, of course, postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.)

Once the season resumes, Prime members in New York state, Connecticut, northeast Pennsylvania and north and central New Jersey areas will get access to all 21 Yankees games on Prime Video. These will be simulcasts of games produced by YES for airing on PIX11 and other over-the-air partners for Yankees telecasts, according to the YES Network.
