Comcast Brings Xfinity Stream to LG Smart TVs, So You Can Access Xfinity Programming Without a Set-Top Box
Comcast and LG announced that they have brought the Xfinity Stream beta app to 2017, 2018, & 2019 LG Smart TVs. With Xfinity Stream, Comcast customers can access their Xfinity TV subscription including live, on-demand, and Cloud DVR programming.
Xfinity Stream brings the same interface as your Xfinity X1 set-top box, but allows you to access your programming in different rooms around your house, or on-the-go with their mobile app. To date, Xfinity Stream is available on Roku, Roku Smart TVs, and some Samsung Smart TVs.
Last year, there was speculation that Comcast would broaden the reach of Xfinity Stream to other streaming devices, including Apple TV, Fire TV, and VIZIO Smart TVs.
While it may surprise some that Comcast is moving away from requiring customers to have their own set-top box, it makes converting customers that much easier. The service, which is still considered to be in beta, is free, but it is expected to be priced slightly cheaper than the cost of an additional set-top box ($9.95) in the future.
