ESPN Plus to Hike Price for UFC Tentpole Pay-Per-View Events, Will Cost $64.99 Starting Jan. 18

It seems ESPN+ is now the latest streaming service to hike their prices. The Disney-owned streamer announced it will increase the cost of UFC tentpole pay-per-view events from $59.99 to $64.99. The new price becomes effective for UFC 246 with Conor McGregor taking on Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone on Jan. 18, 2020.

In a statement addressing the $5 price hike, an ESPN rep said, “This price change represents a return to the price that UFC fans traditionally paid, prior to ESPN+ decreasing the PPV price for most of 2019,” Variety reported.

For new subscribers, the McGregor vs. Cerrone fight and one year’s subscription packaged together will cost $84.98 (compared to $79.98 previously). The base price of ESPN+ will remain at $4.99 per month or $49.99 per year. The streaming service includes dozens of “UFC on ESPN+ Fight Night” events and hundreds of hours of other UFC programming, in addition to thousands of other sporting events and originals.

Earlier this year, the UFC signed an expanded deal with ESPN+, which sees the streamer as the exclusive carrier of all UFC PPV events in the U.S. until 2025. The deal allows UFC to continue selling its PPV events to commercial establishments like bars and restaurants, but individual fans in the U.S. can watch them only via ESPN+.

The news comes as fellow Disney subsidiary, Hulu Live TV also hiked its price. The streaming service upped its cost by $10, going from $44.99 to $54.99, starting today.
