The spread of the coronavirus has disrupted many day-to-day activities. Chief among them are the lives of children across the world, who have been forced out of schools mid-year. While there has been ton of information disseminated for adults, Nickelodeon and Disney are turning their attention to their main audiences and preparing initiatives to educate children.
According to Deadline the two have each launched separate initiatives to keep kids entertained and educated during this time. Nickelodeon, for example, will host the “#KidsTogether: The Nickelodeon Town Hall,” an hour-long special giving kids’ perspectives during the coronavirus-induced quarantine.
The town hall “will directly address kids’ questions and concerns, include tips and insights from medical experts on ways to be healthy, and give first-person accounts from kids and families around the country who are social distancing and making changes to their everyday lives and relationships.”
The event will be hosted by Kristen Bell and guests include California surgeon general Dr. Nadine Burke Harris, as well as former U.S. surgeon general Dr. Vivek H. Murthy. Alicia Keys is set to perform, while appearances by Charli D’Amelio, Josh Gad, Kel Mitchell, Kenan Thompson, Russell and Ciara Wilson, among others, are on deck.
The town hall special is part of Nickelodeon’s bigger initiative titled, #KidsTogether, which aims to aid parents in providing “kid-appropriate, kid-directed information through original short-form videos, interstitials, downloadable activities and social content,” Deadline reports. All content, including a brief recap of the town hall can be found at NickHelps.com after it airs.
For their part, Disney Channel also launched We’re All in This Together (#WAITT), a series of video clips — targeted at the 6 to 14 demographic — featuring Disney Channel stars as they speak about their own experiences during the lockdowns and giving tips on how to stay positive and active until things calm down.
