About Law & Order: Special Victims Unit
Law & Order: Special Victims Unit season 23 brings back several familiar faces, including Mariska Hargitay, who plays Captain Olivia Benson. Benson, herself a survivor of sexual crime, and by extension, a “special victim” in her own right, brings her unique brand of empathy to every case she pursues.
Hargitay herself is a major draw; she’s an eight-time Emmy Award nominee, and actually won back in 2006. Hargitay has also pulled two Golden Globe nominations and one win, along with six Screen Actors Guild (SAG) nominations and has won several other awards besides.
Returning to the long-running cast is Ice-T as Sgt. Odafin “Fin” Tutuola, Kelli Giddish as Senior Det. Amanda Rollins, Jamie Gray Hyder as Officer Katriona “Kat” Azar Tamin, and Peter Scanavino as Assistant District Attorney Dominic “Sonny” Carisi. This powerful ensemble will come together to produce thrilling new episodes for this year’s run.
Whether addressing a sex-for-housing crime ring, pursuing witnesses, or any of a host of other themes, the crew of the Special Victims Unit will pursue sex crime aggressively and do everything in its power to find justice for those harmed by it. Even internal drama plays a part; just trying to keep witnesses from jumping ship can be a significant problem.
Law & Order: Special Victims Unit
In the criminal justice system, sexually-based offenses are considered especially heinous. In New York City, the dedicated detectives who investigate these vicious felonies are members of an elite squad known as the Special Victims Unit. These are their stories.
