Last year, Hulu abruptly removed 4K content from their SVOD service after launching support in 2016. Previously, you were able to stream Hulu Originals and select films like the entire James Bond library in 4K on gaming consoles like PS4 and Xbox One.
In July, Hulu brought back support for 4K streaming — but to Apple TV 4K and Chromecast Ultra, then added Xbox, Amazon Fire TV, LG Smart TVs, followed by Roku just last week. Now, the company is adding 4K support to VIZIO SmartCast TVs.
Hulu 4K Supported Devices
- Amazon Fire TV
- Apple TV 4K
- Chromecast Ultra

- VIZIO Smart TVs
Currently, the content available to stream in 4K is Hulu Originals like The Handmaid’s Tale, Catch-22, The First, and Castle Rock. Hulu’s 4K UHD support streams at 16 Mbps, so you will need a strong internet connection to watch your favorite shows. Their 4K streaming only supports SDR (Standard Dynamic Range), not HDR10 or Dolby Vision, so it may not have the same contrast and richness of color as other 4K content.
Various streaming services have offered 4K content, including Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. Netflix has nearly 600 titles in 4K including their original series and some licensed content like Planet Earth, but requires their more expensive Ultra Plan ($16). Amazon Prime Video offers all it original content in 4K (some in HDR), as well as ~50 films like Arrival, Philadelphia, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. fuboTV is the only Live TV Streaming Service to offer live events like the World Cup, Major League Baseball, College Football, and College Basketball live in 4K.
