Lionsgate Strikes Streaming Deal With Amazon to Bring ‘Mad Men’ to Prime Video, IMDb TV

Lionsgate has struck a series of complex licensing deals for the hit show “Mad Men.” According to Deadline, the show has been a free agent since its license under Netflix expired on June 9 and the streamer opted not to renew the agreement.

In a new deal with Amazon, the e-commerce giant’s IMDb TV platform will become the show’s exclusive free-streaming platform in the U.S., effective July 15. Amazon Prime Video will have the show available for users internationally, launching all 92 episodes of the series in Europe, Australia, Latin America and more on July 3; Japan, Israel, Indonesia and Thailand on July 15; Canada on October 1 and in the Netherlands starting November 1.

“Mad Men” joins other shows such as “Chicago Fire,” “Schitt’s Creek,” “Lost,” “Friday Night Lights,” “Revenge,” “Malcom in the Middle,” “White Collar” and “Desperate Housewives” that have been acquired by Amazon Studios for IMDb TV.

Amazon platforms will be the exclusive carriers of “Mad Men” from July 15 to Oct. 1, when all seven seasons of the show will also become available on AMC’s linear networks and SVOD services. Lionsgate-owned streamer Starzplay will also house the series across their European and Latin American markets, as well as Japan, beginning Oct. 1.

“Mad Men is an evergreen property whose appeal has continued to grow over the years, and we’re pleased to collaborate with a diverse alliance of exceptional partners to bring it to a global audience,” said Jim Packer, president of worldwide television and digital distribution.

“This comprehensive and multifaceted agreement brings together partners from every part of the content ecosystem, and it allows a whole new generation of fans to enjoy one of the greatest television series ever made, whether they’re reuniting with the show as an old friend or discovering Mad Men for the first time.”

“Mad Men” stars Jon Hamm, January Jones, Vincent Kartheiser, Elisabeth Moss, Christina Hendricks, John Slattery, Aaron Staton, Rich Sommer, Christopher Stanley, Jessica Paré, Jay R. Ferguson, Kevin Rahm, Kiernan Shipka and Mason Vale Cotton.
