Peacock Snags Exclusive Rights to ‘The Defiant Ones,’ Documentary Will Debut Sept. 4

In an act of content crossover, Peacock has garnered the exclusive U.S. rights to the Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine documentary “The Defiant Ones.” The four-part documentary series, which originally launched on HBO back in 2017, will make its Peacock bow on Sept. 4. Currently, it is available on HBO Max and HBO’s other existing digital services.

The series chronicles Dr. Dre and Iovine’s lives as individuals and then merges into their working relationship, which saw the pair sell their headphone company for a whopping $3 billion back in 2014. The series features interviews with the likes of Ice Cube, Mark Anthony Petrucelli, Patti Smith, Bruce Springsteen, Bono, Sean Combs, Kendrick Lamar, Nas, Stevie Nicks, Tom Petty, Snoop Dogg, will.i.am and Eminem.

“The Defiant Ones” was written and directed by Allen Hughes and produced by Sarah Anthony, Steven Williams, Fritzi Horstman and Gene Kirkwood.

The news comes two weeks after Peacock announced they would bring the entire Harry Potter franchise to their platform. Beginning in October, the movies will begin rolling out on the platform in windows and will continue to drop over the following six months, going into 2021.

The films have been quite the hot topic lately as they were a major highlight at the launch of HBO Max. When the streaming service came out on May 27, Potterheads were delighted to find all eight films were available as part of the service.

However, it was announced that all eight films would leave the streaming service on Aug. 25. At the time, it wasn’t clear where the films would be headed, but Peacock’s announcement resolved the question.
