These Are The Films Amazon, Apple and Netflix Bought at the Toronto International Film Festival

With streaming wars currently at their peak, the competition for original content is of course just as rife. Upcoming streaming service such as Disney+ and Apple TV+ are gearing up to launch with what they consider to be the best for streamers, while longstanding services such as Netflix and Amazon, are are aiming to maintain their market shares.

In the continued bid to have the most appealing content on their services, Netflix, Amazon and Hulu were all at the Toronto International Film Festival and managed to snag some more films for their platforms. Amazon came away with the Sound of Metal which stars Riz Ahmed as a heavy metal drummer who suddenly loses his hearing.

Apple won out with Bryce Dallas Howard’s Dads. The documentary film will look at modern fatherhood around the world, with celebrities like Jimmy Fallon, Neil Patrick Harris and Will Smith weighing in.

According to Deadline, Netflix acquired The Platform (El Hoyo). The film follows the life of a “citizen of a not-too-distant dystopia who voluntarily incarcerates himself with the promise of increased social mobility upon release, but becomes so radicalized by his captivity that he will risk everything to ride a devilish dumbwaiter on a one-way ticket to protect a panna cotta.”
