Tubi to Be Exclusive Streamer of ‘Red 11’ and ‘The Robert Rodriguez Film School’

Tubi announced today they will be the exclusive streamer of Robert Rodriguez’s “Red 11” and “The Robert Rodriguez Film School.” The series and film will be premiere on the platform in the summer after world premieres at SXSW and official screenings at the Directors Fortnight section at Cannes.

“I’m thrilled to be partnering with Tubi to deliver ‘Red 11’ and its accompanying Film School docuseries free of charge and easily accessible to all audiences,” Robert Rodriguez said. “I made both ‘Red 11’ and the Film School series to celebrate the 25th anniversary of ‘El Mariachi,’ and this project shows truly actionable methods using my no crew, micro budget filmmaking style that will inspire others to make their own films and have their voices be heard.”

“Red 11” follows the protagonist, named Rob, as he tries to figure out whether a hospital is trying to kill him or if he’s having a bad reaction to drugs. Set in the dark, twisted world of legal drug research, “Red 11” sees college kids turn into lab rats to make quick money.

“The Robert Rodriguez Film School” is the accompanying docuseries that explains the director’s filmmaking process. It aims to reach up and coming filmmakers and educate on “the perceived limitations of time, budget and other variables.”

Tubi continues to aggregate content for their platform. Just last week, they announced a new partnership with TV Azteca — one of the two largest producers of Spanish-language TV programming globally — that will expand the service into Mexico later this year. Through the deal, TV Azteca will promote Tubi to its audience and provide advertising sales for the streaming service. Also, some of TV Azteca’s popular shows will be free to Tubi customers in Mexico, including “MasterChef Mexico,” “Enamorándonos” and “Exatlón Mexico.”

Earlier this month, Tubi announced they signed a deal with Hisense — the third-largest television manufacturer in the world — to bring content to Vidaa International. Starting spring 2020, Tubi customers in the U.S., Canada and Australia will have access to Tubi’s large library of content on the new Vidaa platform. And later this year, Tubi will launch in the UK where consumers will have access to Vidaa as well. The new Hisense TVs powered by Vidaa will have Tubi preloaded and placed on home screens.

Since the launch of the Tubi app in 2014, the platform has shown a steady amount of growth.
They announced that they surpassed 20 million monthly active users in May, with customers watching over 94 million hours of content. In September 2019, Tubi announced customers had streamed over 132 million hours of content — a 40 percent increase since May.
