Amazon Fire TV Tops Roku With 34 Million Active Users

Amazon announced today that they have surpassed 34 million active accounts. This is up from the 25 million active accounts that Amazon shared in October and 30 million announced in January.

In comparison, just last week Roku announced that they have reached 29.1 million active accounts. This is up from the 27 million active Roku accounts shared in the fourth quarter, and up from nearly 19 million (+40%) since the first quarter last year.

According to Amazon, the Fire TV family remains the #1 streaming media player family in the US, UK, Germany, India, and Japan. The company has been aggressively pushing their Fire TV devices since this past holiday season, where they discounted the Fire TV Stick to just $25 (normally $40) and Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K to $35 (normally $50).

Amazon has also expanded their streaming line-up with an OTA DVR called Fire TV Recast and an Echo/Fire TV combo called Fire TV Cube.
